About Magpie

Magpie is a Chrome browser extension for people who collect images, screenshots, links and text snippets and want them kept private. Designers, researchers and anyone building a visual reference library can capture items with a right-click, a screenshot clip or a drag into a side panel, then file them into boards.

Rather than a feed or a cloud-first bookmark manager, Magpie stores boards as ordinary files on your machine. You can mirror them into a folder you choose, with images as image files and snippets as markdown, and the extension is described as requesting no host permissions and having no analytics. Boards offer tags, notes, search, color-based browsing and palette sorting, and an optional AI helper that is off by default.

Sync across devices, a web app and managed AI are available through a paid Plus plan, while the core collector is free and local. Local files remain the source of truth even when syncing is turned on.
