About screen toys

screen toys is a small collection of interactive web toys made by Gavin Shapiro. It is aimed at anyone who wants a quick, silly distraction in the browser, or a bit of visual fun to put on while music plays.

The collection mixes games, simulations and visualizers. Spooky Bones fills the screen with dancing skeletons, Firewood Splitting Simulator shows wood being split on a real stump, and Splitshift is a sliding tile puzzle. Chess 2 turns the classic board game into a chaotic throwing of pieces, while Road trip sends cars crashing down into a field of cows. Poms lets visitors summon running pomeranians by tapping or typing.

Several pieces are built around music. Five Penguins is a penguin visualizer that can sync to a track, and shapiro500 is a VJ tool that loops dozens of 3D animations with adjustable tempo, suited to party backgrounds. Each toy sits on a simple dark homepage with a short description and preview.
