gcdatlas
Explorable ASCII universe, from Earth to the observable edge

About gcdatlas
gcdatlas is a browser-based atlas of the universe rendered entirely in ASCII characters. It shows real planets, stars, nebulae, black holes and galaxies at their true positions, so people curious about astronomy can explore space as a single continuous map rather than a set of separate pages.
Users drag to orbit an object, scroll or drag a scale on the right edge to zoom from a single planet out to the whole universe, and tap any object to fly there. A search box, guided tours, travel speed options such as slow, quick and warp, a ruler, a size comparison view and a sound toggle round out the interface. Objects can also be shared.
What sets it apart is the stylistic choice of drawing a seamless, scale-spanning universe in text. It requires a browser with WebGL 2 enabled, and shows a notice when that is unavailable.
