About Decimen Optical Transfer

Decimen Optical Transfer is a web app that moves a file or a block of text from one device to another using only a screen and a camera. The sender shows a stream of animated QR codes, and the receiving device reads them by pointing its camera at the screen. It suits anyone who needs to hand over data between devices that share no network, account or pairing.

The sender can choose any file up to 64 MB or paste a text snippet up to 4 MB. Data is compressed when that helps, and the file keeps its original name on arrival. The codes use fountain coding, so the receiver can rebuild the file from the frames it captures. Nothing passes through cloud storage or any network path between the two devices.

The site states that transfers are not encrypted, so anything shown on the sending screen can be read by any camera aimed at it. The project is free, open source under AGPL-3.0-or-later, has no ads, and is available in a dozen languages, with releases published on GitHub.
