About WhereWasTaken

WhereWasTaken is an AI image location finder for people who want to know where a photo or screenshot was taken, even when it has no GPS data or metadata. It is aimed at travelers, researchers, journalists and GeoGuessr players who have an image but no location.

Users upload a photo, screenshot or GeoGuessr round in common formats such as JPG, PNG, WEBP and HEIC. The AI looks at landmarks, visible text, architecture, roads, vegetation and terrain, then returns a most likely location with country, region and city, a confidence score and the clues behind the estimate. GPS is optional.

The site also includes a GeoGuessr image solver and an image metadata viewer for checking EXIF data, GPS coordinates and timestamps. Its focus is on explaining the visual reasoning behind each guess, so users can judge the result for themselves.
