transcript.im is a free YouTube transcript generator for people who want to read, search, quote or reuse what is said in a video. Students, researchers, journalists and content creators can paste a public video link and get a timestamped transcript without downloading the video or hunting for caption files.
The tool first looks for the creator's existing captions and, when a video has none, transcribes the audio instead. The text can be searched, copied line by line, translated into another supported language with timestamps kept in place, and exported as TXT, SRT or VTT. Summaries and mind maps can be generated from the same transcript.
It also works with TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook links, and it offers an API and an MCP server for builders who want to pass transcripts into their own pipelines. Basic use is free within a quota, with a paid subscription billed by usage beyond that.
