Picmal
Convert and compress media on your Mac, offline
About Picmal
Picmal is a desktop app for Mac users who need to convert, compress, and edit images, video, audio, and PDFs without sending files to a website. It is aimed at people who regularly handle batches of media and are tired of slow online converters that require uploads and downloads.
The app covers over 100 formats, including HEIC to JPG, MOV to MP4, and FLAC to ALAC. Users can split, merge, and reorder PDFs, trim or cut out image subjects, merge or split audio, and strip metadata before sharing. A folder watcher converts or compresses whatever lands in a chosen folder, and the app fits into Finder, Shortcuts, Raycast, and a command line tool.
What sets it apart is that everything runs on the device with no account, no subscription, and no internet connection required. It is a one-time purchase of $29 for one Mac, with free updates and a free trial, and it needs macOS 15 or later.
