About xfiles

xfiles is a free browser toolkit for people who need to handle everyday PDFs, images and speech without creating an account. It gathers around 30 small tools covering PDF tasks such as merging, splitting, compressing and rotating pages, image jobs such as resizing, cropping and converting between JPG, PNG and WebP, and audio tools that turn PDFs into spoken audio or speech into a transcript.

What sets it apart is where the work happens. According to the site, selected files, entered text and generated results are processed on the user's device rather than sent to a processing server, and no uploads are required. The site also says exports carry no branding watermark, and the watermark tools only add text the user chooses.

The site notes that an internet connection is still needed to open the app and load its tools, and that optional speech features need model downloads before they run locally. It is operated by an individual developer and is supported by voluntary donations.
