About salt.md
salt.md is an open-source workspace for teams that want notes, documents and databases on their own server. It runs as a single Go binary backed by one SQLite file, so there is no separate database server, cache or sync service to maintain. Backups come down to copying one data directory, and upgrades mean swapping the binary.
The editor is block-based and supports realtime collaboration with live cursors and offline merging. Any page can become a database with table, board, list, gallery, calendar, timeline and form views, plus relations, rollups and formulas. Full-text search covers page content and text inside uploaded PDFs, and content can be exported as Markdown, a workspace archive or the SQLite file itself.
What sets it apart is a built-in MCP server. Assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor can work in the same workspace under the same permissions and history. Tokens can be limited to one workspace or to read-only access, and accounts, backups and instance settings stay out of reach. It is licensed under AGPL-3.0, with no paid tier holding features back.
