Lightning Assist is a native text expander for Windows, Mac and Linux, aimed at people who type the same messages, replies and snippets all day. Snippets expand as you type in any desktop app, so a saved phrase can replace the usual retyping in email, chat, documents or terminals.
Beyond expansion, the app offers AI rewrites of selected text and push-to-talk dictation. Pro adds unlimited snippets, suggestions while you write and Lightning Recall, which offers a saved snippet when you type its words without needing a trigger. AI features run on credits, and the site describes a 14-day trial of Pro that needs no card.
What sets it apart is its focus on privacy. The site says keystrokes stay on the device and that synced snippet content is stored encrypted, and it works as a native app rather than a browser extension, including offline for expansion and library search.
