About CompressGIF
CompressGIF is a web tool for shrinking animated GIFs without watermarks. It is aimed at anyone who needs a GIF to fit an upload limit, such as people sharing animations in chat apps, email or on a website. Files are processed locally in the browser, so GIFs stay on the user's device.
The tool offers three modes: Quality first, which keeps original dimensions, frame timing and looping; Size first, which applies stronger palette and lossy settings; and Target size, with presets of 100KB, 256KB, 512KB and 1MB. If a target cannot be met, it says so and offers the smallest result it found. Users can preview the animation and compare sizes before downloading. Files can be added by picking, dragging, pasting or importing an HTTPS URL.
A free plan covers small batches, while Pro adds larger batches, custom target sizes and ZIP downloads. A REST API and an MCP integration let developers and AI clients run compression jobs in the cloud, with a monthly free credit allowance. The site also includes guides on why GIFs get large.
