About bitbackgrounds

bitbackgrounds is a gallery of animated pixel-art backgrounds for people who want a moving scene behind their website or project. Each of the 26 scenes, from a coastal sunset with a lighthouse to a rainy neon alley, a lunar outpost and a surf break, is rendered in the browser rather than played back as a file.

The site explains that every scene is drawn pixel by pixel on a 640x360 canvas and scaled up to fit whatever container it sits in. It uses no video and no sprite sheets, and the scenes are built from a few hundred lines of TypeScript. That keeps the approach simple and the pixel look crisp at any size.

Visitors can browse the gallery to preview scenes, each with a short mood description and a few descriptive keywords such as night, quiet or city. An Embed section lets them put a scene on their own page. It suits developers, designers and indie makers who want an atmospheric, lightweight hero or backdrop.
